How to get a photo under 500 KB

  1. Drop your photo into the box above, or tap it to pick a file. JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC all work.
  2. The limit is already set to 500 KB. If the form also asks for exact pixels, type them into Width and Height.
  3. Press Make it fit, check the result, and download the new file.

How SizeRight hits the limit

A JPG file gets smaller when you lower its quality setting, but too much lowers how sharp it looks. SizeRight tests quality levels one after another and keeps the highest one that still lands under 500 KB. If even low quality is too big, it reduces the pixel size by about 15% and tries again, so the photo stays clear instead of turning blocky.

At 500 KB most photos keep almost all of their visible detail.

Tips

  • Keep the original. Compressing a file that was already compressed loses quality each time.
  • If the form gives a range, such as "between 10 and 500 KB", don't go far below the upper limit. Aim for a file a few KB under it.
  • Choose JPG for photos. PNG is better for screenshots and drawings but files are usually larger.
