How to get a photo under 100 KB

  1. Drop your photo into the box above, or tap it to pick a file. JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC all work.
  2. The limit is already set to 100 KB. If the form also asks for exact pixels, type them into Width and Height.
  3. Press Make it fit, check the result, and download the new file.

How SizeRight hits the limit

A JPG file gets smaller when you lower its quality setting, but too much lowers how sharp it looks. SizeRight tests quality levels one after another and keeps the highest one that still lands under 100 KB. If even low quality is too big, it reduces the pixel size by about 15% and tries again, so the photo stays clear instead of turning blocky.

At 100 KB most portrait photos keep enough detail to print at passport size.

Tips

  • Keep the original. Compressing a file that was already compressed loses quality each time.
  • If the form gives a range, such as "between 10 and 100 KB", don't go far below the upper limit. Aim for a file a few KB under it.
  • Choose JPG for photos. PNG is better for screenshots and drawings but files are usually larger.

Questions

Why does the form need my photo under 100 KB?

Upload forms cap file size to save storage and keep pages fast, especially when thousands of people apply at once.

Will my photo look worse at 100 KB?

Usually not on screen. SizeRight keeps the highest quality that fits, and only reduces pixels when it has to.

Do you upload my photo?

No. SizeRight runs entirely in your browser. Your photo is never sent to a server, so passport and ID photos stay on your device.

Is SizeRight free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark. The site is supported by ads.
